To be honest I do not get asked this one very often. I always liken a website to an iceberg, a lot of the work goes unseen by the visitor on the site. Then when you factor the time for research and planning, making sure the site works well on mobile, tablet and desktop, the pages are search engine friendly, the site security has been improved, GDPR compliance…you get the picture.
Yes, I get this question too. Some people have had a range of experiences when using design agencies in particular. I am a freelancer, I have worked from home since 2003, I do not pay for offices, staff, a water cooler, bean bags or a pool table. The lack of these costs are reflected in my pricing.
My stock answer is 6-8 weeks. This allows time for me to fit it into my schedule, you to generate your copy and for us to work together getting the site to look and feel right and have a great user experience in place through proofing and testing. For larger sites and e-commerce sites this time frame may be longer and for smaller sites a lot shorter but a ball park would be 6-8 weeks.
Yes, my standard payment arrangements are 50% paid at the start and 50% paid within 7 days of going live, in some cases if there is a delay in going live that is out of my control the final payment will be invoiced before going live. On larger projects that take more time we may agree to split the payment into 3 steps instead.

For websites built under my standard payment method, hosting is up to you. Most of the time my clients host with me as makes everything easier being under one roof so I can support your web site moving forward should any server issues arise. You can choose your own host or you may already have hosting in place for an existing site. As long as the server meets the recommended specification needed for WordPress I can build on your server. I would not be able to give technical support on server issues though, this would be for you to handle via your host’s tech support team.
Absolutely. I encourage clients to do as much as they can themselves moving forward but I am always there for those jobs they can not do themselves. I always give a fixed price on adhoc work before I start the job.
Yes, if manging your site and its content is not something you want to do I can discuss what your needs will be moving forward and work out a plan and costing for ongoing support. This can range from 1 hour to 10 hours per month.
Yes, all my sites are mobile friendly as standard. Each page is checked against desktop, tablet and mobile size screens to ensure the site renders well and is easy to use and navigate on various screen sizes.
